Willard Scott was speaking dismally of snow on the ‘Today” show Tuesday < morning. This weekend is < the anniversary of the worst blizzard in U.S. history, he noted. It was in 1888 when 50 inches of snow fell on New York in just three days. There were five foot drifts.

Fortunately the drift of the National Weather Service’s extended forecast didn’t forebode a repeat performance. Tuesday’s snow would turn to rain and the lows for Friday shouldn’t sink below 40.

Tuesday is the first official day of spring. The weather should get far wanner before long.

People will sun-bathe in Sperryville again. That is as certain as the fact that you can’t stop the winter from turning into spring.
