According to C. Blackwell Dulaney, managing attorney, recent cuts in Rappahannock legal Service’s budget have meant that many of its clients could not be served but for the Pro Bono Program.

Rappahannock Legal Services screens clients for financial eligibility and then refers them to participating private attorneys. Referrals generally include adoptions. Social Security eases, custody and support cases, simple divorces and bankruptcies. According to Baumgardner, the vast bulk of Pro Bono work involves domestic relations with “some landlord tenant disputes.” A participating attorney may charge up to $10 per hour plus court costs.
