Trash costs: 1987-89
The bill for solid waste disposal to be paid by Rappahannock County in 1987-89 includes:
• $185,000 for the 99-acre Stover tract, the site of Rappahannock's first county-owned and operated landfill.
• $100,000 for testing, boring, and geotechnical studies on the Stover tract and other sites considered for a landfill.
• $130,000 for hauling and disposal of trash in 198788 at the Clark landfill in Woodville and the landfill in neighboring Culpeper County.
• $90,000 for construction of the access road into the Stover property.
• $495,459 for construction in 1988-89 of Phase I of the landfill on the Stover tract.
• $200,000 estimated for annual operation of the new landfill.
Total: $1,200,459 (exclusive of hauling costs from any dumpsters maintained after the new landfill opens).
The landfill permit issued by the Department of Solid Waste Management covers 8.6 acres with an estimated 10-year capacity.
Cost of an office building and septic system planned for construction at some future point is estimated at $30,000.
