is a part of the National Association of Realtors. The Piedmont Board represents real estate firms, and their agents, within the four counties it serves.
The board’s spokesman pointed out that “Realtors” are differentiated from “real estate agents” by their membership in the realtors’ association.
She explained that the goal of the founders of the National Association of Realtors is the establishment of a code of ethics for real estate agents. First approved in 1913, the association is based on the “Golden Rule,” and binds its members together in a continuing quest for professional conduct. This, she added, is assured through ethical obligations, moral integrity and competent service to clients and customers, and dedication to the public interest and welfare.
Only members of the National Association of Realtors, the spokesman noted, may identify themselves as “realtors.”
The Virginia Association of Realtors is the state’s largest trade association. It was founded in 1920 and now boasts nearly 30,000 member realty firms and their agents.
