First grade
The students will develop an understanding of the importance of a family and of different family patterns. They will identify the responsibilities of family members in contributing to the successful functioning of the family.
Students will realize that human beings and other mammals have babies and that babies can be breastfed, and they will use correct terminology when talking about body parts and functions.
Working on an individual basis, teachers will help children recognize and express their feelings of happiness, sadness, and anger, and become aware of appropriate behavior to use in dealing with their feelings.
Students will experience the logical consequences of behavior by making choices and experiencing the outcome —both negative and positive — of those choices.
