If the board decides to retain the dumpster sites after the landfill opens, Chairman Gilkey suggested toughening the rules governing disposal there. “Put some teeth into this thing,” he advised, proposing that illegal dumping of white goods and construction debris be punishable by fines of $200 to $300.
And whether the dumpsters are maintained or not, “we’re going to have to educate the public” on safe and proper refuse handling, Mr. Gilkey added.
