A seventh grade student
from Washington Elemen! tary School walked off with top ! honors at the Northern Pied, mont Area Spelling Bee held ■ Saturday in Culpeper. Drucilla ; Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. , George H. Davis Jr. of Washington, captured first place in the ' area contest and will go to national competition in Washing; ton, D.C., in June. She was ^awarded a set of Encyclopedia Britannica, a certificate and a pen and pencil set. All expenses for her trip to the national spelling bee will also be paid.
The deadline has passed for candidates filing for mayor and members of the Town Council in Washington, Va. for the June election. A check shows no candidates have filed for mayor and two vacant council seats. Those who have filed are Mrs. Virginia Miller, treasurer, and council members Mrs. Bertha Armel, Mrs. Weiland Flynt and Mrs. Edna Wayland.
