At a meeting held Monday afternoon, the county’s School Board voted to accept Superintendent David Gangel’s recommendation for a reorganization of the division’s administrative personnel and their duties.
Dr. Gangel’s review was requested by the board after its regular meeting last month. School Board Chairman Beverly Massie said Monday that the need for changes in the administrative duties became apparent after several resignations were accepted by the board.
She recommended that the board accept Dr. Gangel’s suggestions “to make changes in the best interests of the school division. ”
Under Dr. Gangel’s plan. Elementary Principal Maggie Piper will move to the School Board office, where she will assume the newly-created position of Director of Pupil Personnel. Her duties will include overseeing the county’s special education program, gifted education, student testing, field trips and coordinating home school studies.
High school Vice-Principal Bernard Cheshire will become principal at the elementary school.
