“We certainly want to stress that it is the school division’s intent to take this year as preparation for the program. We want parental involvement and we want to take into consideration the social customs and the feelings of the community as a whole,” the superintendent said.
To encourage involvement and promote understanding, Dr. Gangel said he plans to speak on family life education to as many church and civic groups as will hear him this summer, and Mrs. Massie noted that the board will eventually hold an open house for those interested in reviewing the curriculum. Tables will be set up for each grade level and teachers will be on hand to answer questions. “Parents will be able to go around and listen . . . and see the materials which may quell any apprehension they might have,” she added.
