Last year, representatives from more than 50 organizations which provide volunteer services to the residents of Rappahannock County gathered to recognize each other, and their contributions to the community.
This year, the organizers hope for an even larger turnout. Jeanie McNear, the county’s community services coordinator, said that “we hope to get the word out to those who don’t usually think of themselves as volunteers.” She noted that the members of the School Board, the town’s Architectural Review Board and Planning Commission, the county’s Water and Sewer Authority and other governmental boards and groups are examples of such volunteerism, although the members might not think of themselves as such.
