It will be stressed that sexual behavior is a conscious decision; that it is important to say “no” to premature and inappropriate sexual relationships, and that appropriate sexual relationships are based on mutual respect, trust, and caring.
Students will recognize that physical affection is not all sexual, but that it also can be an expression of friendship, celebration, or a loving family.
They will be told of the harmful consequences of preteen and teenage sexual intercourse and the positive results and freedoms associated with abstinence. They will be asked to list the adverse consequences of a pregnancy in early adolescence and the positive benefits of postponing pregnancy. They will also learn the signs and symptoms of pregnancy.
