love to cook,” he said with a smile, adding many of his menu items are his own, with unusual names that catch people’s attention and stick in their memories.
“And, I love people,” he said.
Originally from the Midwest, the owner has been in Virginia for several years, and is a resident of Madison County where he owns and operates another Appetite Repair, a deli-style resturant that does not offer seating.
In Madison he sells gourmet meats and cheeses, home-grown herbs, which the Rappahannock resturant will soon offer, and his very own specialty sandwiches.
“They are memorable,” he said of the home-cooked specialities, memorable not only in name but in taste.
People come from near and far to tfy his special items like Cajun catfish whiskers or real chocolate shakes or his liver and onions or his vegetarian pitas.
“When they start coming from far away, you know you are doing something right,” he said with a booming laugh.
His cooking started when he was nine years old. An aunt taught him to make white bread, “from then on it developed into a family tradition," he said.
