to English and drama teacher Lori Pfalzgraf for encouraging and guiding everyone involved and for sticking with the idea until “the show” actually became a program.
Melinda Russell was responsible for the vocal coaching and added her usually flawless piano accompaniment. We also encourage Wendy Whitford, the new band instructor, to continue to motivate instrumental performers toward developing both solo and combo confidence for future programs.
For only a dollar at the door everyone got a real bargain. A portion of the receipts went to pay for the cash prizes, the remainder being applied toward acquiring an adequate sound system for future shows. The system used for the show was graciously loaned by the Rappahannock Association for Arts and the Community with Tim Mahoney serving as audio engineer.
Two cash prizes were awarded as the program concluded. First prize of $30 cash was handed to Jason Fox who sang and played two of his original songs, each quite different in mood and quality. Jason has some good things to express. We would encourage him to keep on working until performing his songs is as much of a pleasure for him as his singing and playing are for the audience.
Second prize of $15 went to soprano Melanie Moffett who sang “Castle in a Cloud” in a sweet, clear voice.
There was more variety to this talent show than might have been expected. Amy Hathaway recited a humorous item called “Clarence.”
