Rich named head
of 10th Dist. GOP
James E. Rich of The Plains was elected unanimously chairman of the newly restructured 10th Congressional District Republican Committee at a recent meeting of the new district committee.
The meeting of city and county Republican chairmen and State Central Committee members was held at the Warren Green Building in Warrenton.
The new 10th Congressional District covers western Fairfax County, Loudoun County, two precincts in Rockingham County and many counties and cities that were once in the old 7th Congressional District (14 counties and cities altogether), including Rappahannock.
Mr. Rich was nominated for office by Betty Burkholder, Republican Chairman of the City of Winchester.
In her speech, Mrs. Burkholder said, “Mr. Rich is the logical choice for chairman because he has paid his dues as a longtime Republican leader who will be able to unite the rural parts of the district with the more suburban localities. Additionally, he has the requisite manners and demeanor for the chairmanship."
Mr. Rich is a former three-term chairman of the Fauquier County Republican Committee, serving from 1982 to 1988.
He has served as a member of the 7th District Republican Committee and in 1984 was elected as an atlarge alternate for Ronald Reagan to the Republican National Convention. „
