The 1992 Tour features a worldclass field of 13 professional and three amateur national teams. In addition to LeMond, others expected to compete include Michel Indurain of Spain, winner of this year’s Tour de France, and Alexi Grewal of Aspen, Colo., 1984 Olympic gold medalist.

Tour Du Pont emulates the point-to-point stage racing philosophy of the Tour de France. This year’s race features seven road races, three time trials and two circuit races. The rider with the lowest accumulated time over the 11 stages wins.

After passing through Rappahannock the bikers will head south along the Blue Ridge to Swift Run Gap, past Harrisonburg to The Homestead in Hot Springs, then east to Wintergreen, Richmond and north to D.C.

The finish line is at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium in the District.
