Angie Clark sang “I’d Be Good For You,” four students performed a funny pantomine and lip-synched to an audio tape, alto Alice Reeve interpreted the old favorite “Stormy Weather” and did well without accompaniment, and Amber Early blended her pleasing soprano voice with a recorded tape of “Greatest Love of All,” a difficult thing to attempt but she handled it with skill.
The hot rock combo, named The Funky Honkys (or something like that) consisted of Philip Smiley, Joey Dunagan, Steven Jeffries and Mike Shotten, performed after the intermission giving them time to setup and check out a battery of mikes.
This group clearly deserved all the yells and squeals that came from the cheering section. As instrumentalists they were excellent, the original selection compared very favorably with music currently being performed and recorded by professionals. As an act they should add some vocals to round out future group appearances.
An unexpected treat, like an extra encore, was contributed at the close of the program by soprano Jenny Foster who sang one of our favorite numbers “The Music of the Night.”
Tucker Rogers served as master of ceremonies with good-natured humor.
We hope the success of this first “Annual RAPP Talent and Variety Show” will stimulate many more similar opportunities for talented young people of Rappahannock County to be seen, heard and appreciated.
