With about three times as many athletes on the spring track team this year compared with last season, first-year Coach Dave van de GraafF has had his hands full running practices.

More than 40 kids have been preparing for the Panthers’ first meet against Strasburg and Brentsville at Strasburg April 1. Sheer numbers should provide much needed depth to the team, which last year found itself mathematically eliminated from winning many of its meets due to a lack of participants for some of the events.

“The only category I don’t have someone for is the girls’ two-mile,” said Coach van de Graaff, the school’s in-school suspension coordinator and drug-and-alcohol counselor. He coached track at Culpeper
