Another exchange student, Kelly Cunningham, will be competitive in the high jump, said the coach.
For the boys, tri-captains Ryan Welch (long, triple and high jumps, and short distances) and Jamie Fincham (field events) give the squad experience and leadership.
Sophomore Jason Waters just clocked a 5:17 personal-best mile, and will also be competing in the two-mile. “If he wants to go to the region,” said Coach van de Graaff, “he’s going to have to focus on one.”
Mark Jenkins, another freshman whose scores didn’t count last year, is “very competitive” in the mile, said the coach.
Randy Early is expected to do well in the 300 hurdles and in other middle-distance events.
Andrew Kerr is the team’s top sprinter, and Torsten Oppell has been strong in the long jump.
