For the girls, standout miler Jessica Arnold will get a chance to score for the Lady Panthers. As an eighthgrader last season, Arnold frequently finished at the top, only to have her points disallowed under a Virginia High School League rule prohibiting eighth-graders from competing at the varsity level.
Tri-captain Michelle Early and returner Sherri Thomas are expected to be the squad’s leading distance runners. With such talent in the middle and long distances, the team will probably have some success in the 1600-meter relay.
Jane Jensen (an exchange student) and Jamiee Hammitt are going to be competitive in the hurdles, said Coach van de Graaff, and sprinter Amber Early is also expected to score for Rappahannock.
