Carter explained that a zero-clearance chimney is made of two or three layers of galvanized pipe, allowing the chimney closure to be placed closer to the walls of the building.
“You have to have air space around the chimney and clean the chimney several times during the burning season,” Carter added.
With the fire being contained only to the wall and attic of the home, Carter estimated the damage at $20,000.
