These amazing aerial displays are a wonder to see (and hear), and they are among the many natural events that serve as synchronizing agents for naturalists. This is because they happen during a short period at a single time of the year. They tell us what season it is. But there may be changes to the timing of many of these events caused by global alterations in climate.
In ,his note about woodcocks, Marshall mentioned that studies done in northern states suggest that bird migration patterns are being altered significantly by climate change. He wonders if other residents have noticed changes in the arrival times of spring birds.
We wonder, too. It’s certainly worth looking into. Many of you keep records of the dates you first see migratory birds in the county and you may have noticed changes. If so, send them to us at rappnature@aol.com
