Ancient European
technique
Delmare and Barnard have worked closely together, borrowing ancient European Sherry making techniques to produce a totally new wine called “Solera.”
A solera combines wines made in as many years as the solera has been established, taking the oldest wine in the bottom of a stack of barrels to the most recently produced wine.
For Rappahannock Cellars, the blend is made with Vidal Blanc 2000 to present.
In using the European technique, the wine is then “sunbaked” on the roof of the winery, resulting in a rich amber liquid with lingering tastes of toasted caramel, honey, almonds and pecans.
The smooth balance makes this a perfect, dessert wine.
