Wednesday’s assembly included a delightful musical presentation by the French classes, led by their instructor Madame Lorraine Duisit. The first and second grade sang numbers one through fifty in French, the third, fourth, and fifth grades sang the conjugations of two significant verbs: etre and avoir, and then prep school French students Marguerite Beattie, Taylor Hammelman, Jordan Hammelman, Allison Russo and Katherine Russo played four stringed instruments — two handmade troubadour harps and two bowed psalters, while singing along with Madame Duisit a haunting French melody, Pavanne by Thoinot Arbeau, born 1520.
College Adviser Marsha Dowell announced the latest in merit scholarships that have been offered to WCDS seniors (totaling over $500,000 to date): Paul Beattie has been accepted at Tulane University and was offered an $88,000 scholarship; Jin Han Cho was accepted at Drake University and was offered a $30,000 scholarship; Danielle Dombrowski has been accepted at Sweet Briar College and was offered a $44,000 scholarship and was also, offered a $48,000 scholarship to Hollins University; Jordan Hammelman was offered a $48,000 Presidential Scholarship to Randolph Macon College; Becky Leser was offered a $44,000 scholarship to Hollins University, offered admission to Sweet Briar College with a $42,000 scholarship, was accepted at Randolph Macon
