The following news item was found in the Blue Ridge. Guide dated April 7, 1905.

“We hear various rumors as regards a railroad for Rappahannock. One is that the Pennsylvania road will in a few days start a party of engineers on a survey through Chester’s Gap and probably by this place (Washington) and on through Madison. Another is that the Southern will soon survey a route from Warrenton to this place (Washington). We also learn that the chances for building the Fredericksburg & Rappahannock R. R. are splendid. We have always been in favor of a railroad for our county, but we believe our people should encourage only the one that is in earnest.”
