March is Youth Art Month and for RCHS art students it is a busy time of the year. The art department participated in the annual Lord Fairfax Community College Expressions Contest. Out of 100 entries received by Lord Fairfax our students captured the top three awards. First place went to Devin Day, second place went to Amanda Hartsock, and third place went to Nicole Espinola.

Art I and II students attended a field trip in March to Old way Arts Center in Sperryville. Eric Kvames demonstrated glass blowing techniques to 29 art students. The trip was funded by the school’s Curriculum Enrichment Program.

The art club has also been working hard this month to raise money for a new kiln and making ceramic pins for teachers. The club plans to sponsor a sidewalk art contest and a yam contest in the next couple of weeks.
