Do you know the origin of the terms “Chairman” or “Chairman of the Board?” In the early centuries in this country, many of the houses had only one large room where the family lived. Some had lofts or an alcove for sleeping, but there was the one large room where the family gathered, went about their chores, cooked and dined. There were few chairs and in many cases just one chair. There was a board that folcjed up flush against the wall when not in use and was always dropped for meals.
