Speaking of taxes

If you think taxing closets is bad, I’ll share with you a really absurd tax. -

A common form of enter- ' tainment in the early days was card playing. Our founding fathers were avid card players and the ordinaries and taverns always provided cards for friendly and sometimes not so friendly games. A deck of cards contained 52 cards then as they do now. However, in the early days there was a tax on the “Ace of Spades” so many people would purchase only 51 cards. This also gives us the expression of “Not playing with a full deck”.
