This past Saturday’s Wildlife Habitat Open House brought out several hundred folks. Ricki Ashcraft, a representative of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo research center in Front Royal, conducted a seminar about the local relevance of wild life habitats on a global level. Held at the SchoolHouse in Sperryville, the seminar and exhibits were sponsored by the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection’s Biodiversity Task Force in partnership with the Piedmont Environmental Council. This presentation gave the Smithsonian’s National Zoo Conservation and Research Center an opportunity to tell the community more about its new direction and also about global biodiversity issues as they relate to Virginia’s ecosystems.
