Others also have questioned the map’s accuracy, Dominion has acknowledged. The company soon plans to produce more precise drawings of the right-ofway’s location. (The PEC has produced a map that puts most of the right-of-way in question in Fauquier. So has the Fauquier County Geographic Information Systems department.)
Apparently only a relatively small portion of Dominion’s right-of-way cuts through Fauquier’s northwestern tip, then crosses the Rappahannock River into Rappahannock County for several miles before re-entering Fauquier near Opal.
The rightrof-way and existing line then proceed to Remington, east to Morrisville and then northeast through Prince William County and Loudoun.
Tb his knowledge, the rightof-way through Rappahannock measures 150 feet to perhaps 350 feet wide, McCarthy said.
McCarthy will be armed with plenty of questions for Bailey and his consultants when they meet next week.
Rappahannock’s Anderson said he believes Dominion views the existing right-of-way for the proposed line as the “path of lease resistance ... I just wish they would go away.”
