Shenandoah stands to receive an additional $1.8 million in fiscal 2008 - a 17 percent increase over its fiscal 2006 budget. The average budget increase for the nation’s 390 national parks was 14 percent.
The funding is sorely needed for the national park system, which operates with a budget shortfall of more than $800 million annually, according to the National Parks Conservation Association.
