The Wakefield County Day School boy’s varsity basketball team scored two. close wins against Wakefield School in The Plains, Va. The WCDS Owls led the chase on January 30, with an opening score of 8-0.
The Fighting Owls struggled even with the Owls leading in the second quarter with a score of 23-20. As the two teams fought head to head in the last quarter the Fighting Owls were ahead with a score of43-45.
With only a sixth of a second left, WCDS star player Patrick Dale made a three point clutch shot winning the game for the for the Owls with a score of 46-45. “It was one of the most exciting games that I have ever been a part of” said Varsity Assistant coach Hurley Smith about the team’s closest game of the season.
The second game against Wakefield on February 8, was also a close struggle. Dale was able to return to the team after an elbow injury and scored 21 points for the Owls. Andrew Smith scored 15, while Ben Luke scored 12. The Owls won the game with a score of 64-51.
The boy’s varsity basketball team lost a game against the Front Royal Flames the following day with a score of 62-50. Dale scored 20 points
