The second-year coach added that the team received a boost from fans as the season progressed.
“The last four or five games of the season, it was incredible to see the amount of people that came to the games,” coach Czekaj said. “That made a huge difference to the team. They felt like there were community members that were there to support them.
“It makes big difference when your following believes in you,” he said.
Next season, the Panthers will have to rely on underclassmen and rising seniors to continue the program’s momentum The team’s two leading scorers, Smith and Czekaj, as well as starting forward Adam Gessner will graduate this spring.
“There are some pretty big shoes to fill,” coach Czekaj said. “We’ve got to replace about 35 points a game and 30 rebounds a game, but the kids that are coming back are capable - they’re just going to have different roles.”
