The Rappahannock County varsity boys basketball team ended their season Saturday with a 62-59 setback at Strasburg in the quarterfinals of the Bull Run District Tbumament.
Senior guards Irving Smith and Bobby Czekaj led the Panthers with 20 points and 19 points, respectively. Freshman point guard Patrick Hanberry added 10 points in the losing effort.
The Panthers finished the season with a record of 5-18 - a positive step for a program that was winless in each of its last two seasons.
The team made significant strides this year and that improvement was seen most clearly at the end of the season. Rappahannock won three of its last eight games, with four of its five losses coming by four points or less during that stretch.
“Even the games that we lost, we played really well and the kids were confident,” coach Bob Czekaj said. “There wasn’t any time during the last 10 games of the year that the kids didn’t walk out on the court and
