Times Newspapers Staff Photo/Betsy Parker Trainer Doug Fout, right, does an ’interval training’ set at his Coosaw Farm track in The Plains. The style of conditioning uses long periods of exercise and short periods of recovery to build wind, muscle and endurance. Not that common in U.S. ’chasing, eventers and endurance riders, and, by default due to long distances hacked to training grounds British 'chase trainers, use interval training. Here Fout, behind on the bay, and jockey Teddy Mulligan canter uphill about 3/8ths of a mile before pulling up to a walk for about 1/16th of a mile back to the ’bottom* of the sand gallop to start another interval set.
