Katherine Robey came to the center when she was grieving the loss of her husband.
Now, her cherry red cowboy hat and sweater mirror her personality - she’s cheerful and said she hopes to share her happiness with others.
Robey sat at a table in a sunny room sharing snacks with four other participants during one of the weekly Care Cafe gatherings at the Spiritual Care Support Ministries center in Warrenton. The nonprofit organization sponsors the activities and offers programs that are free and open to the public.
The building, located on Shirley Avenue in Warrenton, holds GriefShare classes, aimed at helping people to understand grief and work through it, and open-door sessions for those who are ill, dying or bereaved and their caregivers. Many of its participants tell stories similar to Robey’s. They said they came to the SCSM looking for relief and found a network of support through the volunteers and other people coming for counseling.
