The most serious blow to the Rappahannock season became Jan. 2 at Clarke County. With just two minutes left in the game, junior guard Noel Johns, a second-team, all-district selection last season, suffered a season-ending knee injury. Johns had been Rappahannock’s leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points per game.
Jenkins said her decision to resign was particularly difficult, because she has worked with many of her players since they were her physical education students at Rappahannock County Elementary School. Besides working with them in the basketball program, she also coached softball.
The lack of numbers in the athletic program at the high school is a major concern, Jenkins said. A graduate of Rappahannock County, she played three years of varsity basketball and was a member of the track and field team that was the Group A state
