“People who are ill and bereaved sometimes need a place away from their environment to have quiet time and reflect,” she said.
Danielsen had a difficult childhood in Brooklyn and often wanted a quiet place to get away from home. Churches offered her sanctuary, a comfort she hopes to offer to people through the support ministries program.
She offers programs in Culpeper, and runs a chronic illness group at Fauquier Hospital in addition to regular sessions at the SCSM’s Warrenton location. The Shirley Avenue location has been open for more than two years, but is always adding new programs and expanding its services, she said. Danielsen added that she is working to set up a program for teens, which will include a Teen Fun Night and provide them an open forum to discuss anything they want.
