With an in-school suspension program, students are kept in an isolated setting, away from their fellow classmates, They are. under constant supervision of a special instructor who overseees their work on assignments provided by the regular class room teacher Moore explained. Students being punished with inschool suspension may also receive counseling aimed at solving discipline problems, Moore added.

Noting that state aid to education is partially determined by average daily attendance figures, Moore said an in-school suspension program could provide side benefits by raising the amount on money Rappahannock receives.

He told the board that a decision on applying for a grant must be made within the month in order for the project to be considered for funding in time to begin in the 1980-81 school year. The grant application can include rental costs of a modular unit to house the program.
