The 12th annual Loudoun County Day March 30 will open the 1980 visitor season at Oatlands, near Leesburg.

Oatlands, a property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is an 1805 Greek Revival mansion with extensive formal gardens, built on 261 acres by George Carter.

This year’s opening celebration has a varied program designed to appeal to a wide variety of interests. Bluemont Morris will present traditional English Morris dancing, with accompanying music.

Equestrian activities will include Grand Prix dressage demonstrations, a mounted drill team performance, carriage driving, and renowned Clydesdales drawing a Civil War era wagon.

The Washington Blue Rifles and the Ninth Virginia Cavalry, units of the NorthSouth Skirmish Association, will stage a shooting competition using authentic Civil War muskets. The winning team will shoot against Loudoun County’s crack police marksmen.
