There’s an excitement in the very word “trail” that conjures up both romantic and adventurous visions, whether it be a trail through the Chilkoot Pass, littered with the broken dreams of men who challenged the North and failed, or a quiet trail through a favorite wood lot where the gentle earth softens footsteps grown used to the city’s concrete pathways.

No matter what the vision, a trail does offer an opportunity for a bit of exercise, a breath of fresh air and a restful escape from the constant grind of everyday living, say the members of the Virginia Trails Association who are holding a series of information meetings throughout the state this year.
