Two Improved Since *75
In Rappahannock, eighth graders ranked in the 32nd percentile nationwide, based on their ability test scores in 1975- 76. On achievement tests that same year, they ranked in the 26th percentile in reading, 34th in language, 37th in math concepts, 35th in math computations, 33rd in math totals, 27th in social studies and 31st in science.
Comparing 1975-76 to the current year, achievement rankings have improved in, only two areas, reiuling and language.
Eighth graders tested this past fall scored in the 32nd percentile on reading, 33rd on language, 37th on math concepts, 32nd in math computations and math total, 29th in social studies and 31st in science.

Newcomers Guide
Newcomers’ questions about motoring in Virginia are now answered in an easyto-read brochure developed by the Virginia Department of Transportation Safety and the Division of Motor Vehicles.
Entitled, "New to Virginia? A Newcomer’s Guide to Motoring in Virginia,” the brochure includes information about driver licensing, vehicle registration, insurance requirements, taxes, safety inspections and rules of the road that newcomers may not be familiar with. New residents, military personnel, students, temporary residents and other interested individuals may request copies of the guide from DMV branch offices in Culpeper, Warrenton or Front Royal.
