Mrs. F. Wister Weaver, who is now in her third term as president of the Auxiliary to Culpeper Memorial Hospital, began her hospital-related volunteer work even before there was a hospital in Culpeper. She was a member of the Jayceettes here, and that organization was deeply involved in getting the facility underway.
Edyth Weaver says efforts began with “nothing concrete that the hospital would even be built,” and that certainly those forerunners of the Pink Ladies did not foresee that CMH would grow as it has. But they have obvioely worked toward a clear visidn. Since the hospital opened in 1960, the Auxiliary has turned over about $257,500 to the hospital from their various fund-raising activities, most notable the semi-annual “Pink Ladies Follies.” Total hours given comes close to 300,000, with a savings of between $600,000 and $700,000 in labor costs, based on minimum wages.
Auxiliary members have done everything from distributing reading materials to patients to covering the emergency room. They operate the switchboard and the gift shop, as well as the Coffee ShoD.
