Costs Of Counseling
At Tuesday’s meeting, it was brought to the attention of the school board that parents of students suspended under the new drug and alcohol policy are required to pay for counseling mandated by the board.
In each recent discipline case, students have been required to attend drug or alcohol counseling at the county Mental Health Clinic with one parent as a condition for re-instatement in school. Payment for the counseling sessions is determined by a sliding scale, based on the individual's ability to pay.
This can result in one parent being charged S30 an hour for counseling while another pays S10 an hour or nothing, even though the children of both have been suspended for the same offense. The board members were asked if they considered
