Sursum Corda School in Washington, has added a new dimension to its AfterSchool programs. Dance for young children, both boys and girls, is offered on Thursday and Friday afternoons from 3:30 until 5:00. The Thursday class is geared to children ages six and up, while the Friday classes are open to children ages four and five.
School director Camille Harris is pleased to begin the new classes as an answer to repeated requests from area parents desiring dance instruction for children. A typical class format involves stretching exercises, barre work (including the five classical ballet positions) and moving across the floor utilizing ballet and modern dance steps. The National Park service is seeking records which show land that became Shenandoah National Park before it was taken over for public use.
Marne Warren, consultant to the National Park Service is searching for early art, photographs and movies illustrating the region which became the park.
Items of particular interest include drawings and paintings showing rural life in the Sheanandoah Valley between 1700 and 1850, photographs of reconstruction after the Civil War, railroads, logging, resorts and recreation between 1850 and 1930, still and moving pictures depicting the early days of the park, construction of the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
