Laboratory capability has also grown tremendously. Lab studies are taken for granted now which only a short time ago “weren’t being done.” Dr. Henson stresses that Culpeper Memorial is “not just a glorified nursing home, it’s a well-staffed hospital,” adding “I am amazed at the numbers and caliber of physicians we have here, relative to the size of the community — it is quite extraordinary.” He pauses, and with the direct charm which has made him the highlight of a lot of Culpeper’s amateur theatricals over the years, lightens the strong declaration with a smile. “I’m not just saying that.” Theatre has been a strong interest of his, and the doctor born in Wales even wrote Culpeper’s Bicentennial pageant. He says he always wanted to practice in a rural area, and his affection for the community is obvious.
