Two of the meetings are scheduled for 7:30 p.m, March 25 at the Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College and 7:45 p.m. April 10 in the Baptist Church at West and Scanlon streets, Culpeper. John Miller of Warrenton is in charge of the Culpeper meeting. A veteran hiker and backpacker, John and his wife Gail and all of the members of his family have spent many days hiking the Appalachian Trail, the Len H. Ocksen trails at Goshen and the rugged high country trails at the Philmont Scout Ranch: They have also used their summer vacations in working to improve parts of the Appalachian trail in southern Pennsylvania.
The Virginia Trails Association is becoming a statewide organization with local meetings organized in the state’s Planning Districts. Currently, 17 local informational groups have been organized with only eight more left to go. President of the non-profit organization is Jeanette Fitzwilliams of Alexandria. Its purpose is threefold: to provide information about trails, to give trail users an opportunity to express opinions about trails and to provide a means of continuing communication between trail users and organizers.
The officers hope that everyone directly or indirectly connected with trails and trail use will attend one of the sessions. — Loyal McMillin.
