The other five are Lillie R. Cottoms, Frances Marie Deal, Lillian J. Lewis, Rebecca Utz and L. Darlene Wines. “I like working for the hospital and I’ve stayed because I wanted to stay, not because I had to,” says Mrs. Wines, who lives with her husband Joseph at Unionville. Mrs. Brown is a nursing assistant in the Intensive Care Unit, work she has done for the past six years. She also works sometimes on the semi-private floor. Ho* work includes connecting heart monitors, taking blood pressures and temperatures, giving baths and doing general patient care. She was on the payroll before the hospital officially opened, getting things ready for patients. She recalls that she had never nursed anywhere else, except for family, but her children were getting old enough and she thought she would like to try the job. A native of Rappahannock County, Mrs. Brown is married to Millard T. Brown, and the couple has two sms and five grandchildren.
Lillie Cottoms, a licensed food service supervisor with the American Dietitians Association, has been in the dietary department for the entire 20 years. A Culpeper native, she says she has enjoyed working there, from starting off as a “tray girl” up to assistant to the dietitian and supervisor.
Now, she is working in salads and desserts.
