Ann S. Oliver, a senior at Rappahannock High School, is the only county student to be honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation as a semifinalist in the 1983-84 Merit Scholarship program.
Along with about 15,000 outstanding young men and women across the country, Ann will advance in the competition for 5,300 Merit Scholarships, worth more than $18 million, to be awarded in the spring of 1984.
Over one million students from more than 18,000 public and private secondary schools entered the competition last fall by taking the PSAT/NMSQT in their junior year. Ann and the others who qualified as semifinalists include the highest scorers in every state and represent the top half of one percent of this year’s senior class.
