If elected, I will visit Rappahannock on a regular basis. Rappahannock, as a strong Democratic county, is one of the key elements in the winning coalition that we are putting together this year and I won’t forget the support of the voters of this county when I go to Richmond next year.”

The 26th District has been represented in the past by Republican Nathan Miller, who decided against * seeking re-election this year. Schlabach, the Democratic candidate, is opposed by Republican Kevin Miller, who lost a race for Congress in 1982 to Democrat James Olin. Schlabach has cited Miller’s aspirations for higher office as a major issue in the race, contending that if he (Schlabach) is elected, he will “only be a State Senator” and not a candidate for another office.

Schlabach also contends that he, as a Democrat, will be better able to work with the General Assembly’s moderate and conservative Democratice majority .
