I would like to applaud Robert Eastham's response to the Rappahannock News editorial criticizing his description of the curriculum as a “smorgasbord".

Mr. Eastham addresses a basic problem of education in America today, not just in Rappahannock County. This is the problem of too much choice too soon. Responsible parents don’t allow their children to eat anything they want. Some parents, however, don’t know what’s good for their children, nor for themselves. A school curriculum is an intellectual menu designed to build mental skills and to impart knowledge of our world.
